The Physical Education program at Carden Day School is designed to meet our student’s needs in many areas of physical and emotional development. The program builds much needed motor skills, increases cognitive skills through strategy, and builds social skills through teamwork.

The Mae Carden philosophy emphasizes that a fit and well functioning body is essential to mental health. The child whose body is exercised, has increased intellectual functioning as a result. Beginning in Junior Kindergarten and continuing through Eighth Grade, students build skills from initial basic coordination and balance to the complex rules and teamwork necessary in team sports and competition. Each unit progresses as appropriate to the age and abilities of the child, and includes:
Interspersed within the basic curriculum, our students participate in the Presidential Fitness Program. Those who meet the program standards are awarded patches that may be displayed on their uniform sweaters.

In connection with the basic program, students are encouraged to participate in the American Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Heart program and local fitness events.
